TABAKALERA

Tabakalera es el proyecto que convertirá la antigua fábrica de tabaco de Donostia-San Sebastián en un Centro Internacional de Cultura Contemporánea, especializado en cultura visual. El arte contemporáneo, la televisión, el vídeo y el cine, el diseño y el sonido confluirán en un mismo espacio. Un espacio singular de exposiciones y programas audiovisuales y, sobre todo, un lugar para trabajar, para producir, para crear. Una fábrica de imágenes. Mientras se desarrolla el proyecto y avanzan los preparativos para renovar el edificio, Tabakalera organiza exposiciones, ciclos, debates. Sus actividades conviven en los espacios de la fábrica con grabaciones, rodajes y eventos producidos por otros agentes del entorno. Tabakalera es ya un lugar vivo.

Donostia/San Sebastian, the capital of Gipuzkoa, is a charming city located in the coast of the Bay of Biscay.

A city of services, with 190,000 inhabitants and great tourist activity.

Culture city, around the Kursaal Auditorium, the Victoria Eugenia theatre or the San Telmo and Chillida Leku museums; with events of international renown such as the International Film Festival, the Jazz Festival, the Musical Fortnight or the Horror and Fantasy Film Festival.

A modern city with a huge pedestrianized area and an extensive bicycle lane. It has a network of Technological centres and Universities, as well as a Congress Centre.

The urban and social peculiarities of Donostia are a very important potential for the Tabakalera project.

Gipuzkoa
Gipuzkoa

Gipuzkoa is one of the historical territories of the Basque Country

surface area of 2,000 km2, where industrial towns, rural areas with isolated country houses and nice fishing ports.

Gipuzkoa has a very important industrial network. Its companies, mainly small and medium companies, combine a high degree of internacionalization and deep roots in their area.

Gipuzkoa has leading and innovative sectors technologically speaking, as well as a strong and well-established cooperative model.

Euskal Herria
Euskal Herria

Together with Gipuzkoa, the historical territories of Araba and Bizkaia make up the Autonomous Region, with their respective capitals, Vitoria-Gasteiz (the capital of the BAR) and Bilbao (the main financial and industrial centre).

With a population of 2,128,000 inhabitants, Euskadi has a peculiar degree of self-government in the Spanish state, with its own institutions, such as the Basque Government, the Basque Parliament or the Provincial Councils.

These three territories make up the Basque Country or Euskal Herria, together with Nafarroa, Lapurdi, Zuberoa and Nafarroa Beherea (the last three in France). They are joined by historical and cultural links and, above all, the language they share, the Basque.

The Basque Country has cultural buildings such as Guggenheim and Fine Art museums in Bilbao, the Artium in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Chillida-Leku and San Telmo in Gipuzkoa, the Oteiza museum in Alzuza (Navarra) or the Basque Museum in Baiona.
