Tabakalera is producing a book (published by Actar) on the occasion of this exhibition. In addition to information and pictures from No es neutral, it includes two specially written essays in connection with the Tabakalera’s exhibition.

In one of these, “La mirada arqueológica”, Luis Camnitzer, one of the most influential artists and theoreticians in Latin America, reflects critically on the interpretation of art produced in another context by projecting presuppositions, giving rise to what Camnitzer describes as the archaeological view of art, which evaluates the outer packaging with being quite sure how much it deduces and how much it projects, but draws its own conclusions and accepts these as truths.

In “Vasos comunicantes”, Eugenio Valdés, the director of art and education at Rio de Janeiro’s Casa Daros, discusses power relations as seen through the tension between art and the institution, portraying the institutional art circuit as a system of communicating vessels that contain the subversive potential of art, neutralize its message, define it and “mark its place and time”. The author places this in a contemporary framework in terms of institutional power and, upon that map, situates art produced outside of Europe and North America.
