Presentation

The EGIATIK initiative is based around a photographic and audiovisual exhibition focusing on the past and present of the Tabakalera building and the neighbourhood in which it is located, Egia. Memory and future of Tabakalera. The aim of the initiative is to establish a dialogue with our environment, to provide a platform for citizen participation and to raise awareness of the Tabakalera project.

The event itself is designed to be dynamic, and aims to constitute an open, ongoing process with different areas and types of activities all occurring in parallel. It strives to provide an interactive, audiovisual platform for Remembering, Seeing, Listening to and Imagining Tabakalera. Remembering through a series of old photos of the tobacco factory and through the first-hand accounts of some of its workers and the citizens of the Egia neighbourhood; Seeing through guided tours of the building; Listening to using the interactive Tabakalera Sound Map; and Imagining what the building will be like in the future, are just some of the initiative’s proposals.

Furthermore, citizen participation is vital to the initiative, and citizens will be given the opportunity to voice their opinions using the channels provided by new technologies, and to participate in a number of different round table debates and discussion forums.
