What was an old tobacco factory will be converted into a factory of visual culture. Tabakalera will encompass a wide range of different disciplines, such as contemporary art, television, video and film, design and sound, all of which will exist side by side in a single venue, the old factory building. Tabakalera aims to be a place for working, producing and creating. A factory of ideas and contents. A factory of images.
Once established as an International Centre for Contemporary Culture, Tabakalera will generate projects and activities which will encompass the artistic and creative environment and the audiovisual content industry, and will foster citizen involvement, serving as a hotbed of creation, innovation and participation.
Film screenings will take place alongside recording sets, art exhibitions alongside workshops, open training courses alongside experimental work, concerts alongside laboratories, and children’s programmes alongside student seminars. Thus, professionals will live and work alongside artists, company technicians, the general public and academics, among others.
In short, Tabakalera will act as a support centre for creation, a seedbed of artistic projects. Furthermore, a series of international exhibitions of exceptional quality will be organised within its walls. And all of this will be supported by intense mediation aimed at making contemporary culture and art accessible to citizens from all walks of life.
A video will also be screened on the Tabakalera project.
