Contemporary Art Exhibitions

Compártelo:
  • Year: 2019

Tabakalera’s exhibition programme has recently included individual exhibitions by artists of international renown in different media, specific projects by younger artists and group shows involving either their own work and theses or work selected in the curatorship programmes, and always involves the presence of Basque artists as well as artists from further afield.

One of the main milestones in 2019 will be the opening of a new exhibition hall which will provide a more central location and greater visibility for the exhibitions held in the building.

We will inaugurate the exhibition hall with a show by the San Sebastian artist Esther Ferrer. It is a project through which Tabakalera aims is to raise questions about the exhibition space and establish a different type of relationship between the work and the visitor. It is an invitation to understand the exhibition area as a place for exercise, action and thought.

As in previous years, the exhibition that we will host during the summer months will incorporate a vision of audiovisual work from the point of view of contemporary art in order to discover the points where cinema and art intersect and to see the audiovisual as a means of artistic and cinematographic expression. In this case it will be a two-pronged proposal, with two exhibitions dedicated to the artists Jumana Manna and Uriel Orlow.

And the year will conclude with another two-pronged proposal. First, the project by the group Madrassa which is a result of their curatorship residency in Tabakalera throughout the year 2018. Second, we will host an individual exhibition by the Portuguese artist Filipa César, whose most recent work was a prizewinner in the Zabaltegi-Tabakalera section of the last San Sebastian Film Festival.
