At the Artists’ Space, on 2015 we started the curating programme, a line of work dedicated to studying and reflecting on curatorial practices, as well as those matters which transversally and tangentially establish contact with these: criticism, research, production and mediation. This programme is aimed at local, national and international people who intend to dedicate themselves professionally to curatorial practice.

At four different points over the next two years, we propose to organize four modules addressing different types of curating study and practice. Without wishing to segment or compartmentalize the subject, we propose to devote each of the modules to different ways of understanding, addressing and performing the practice of curating. Professionals from the industry will be invited to design each module and can invite two other professionals to provide additional content.

Four modules:

  • Curating projects. June 20-24, 2016. Directed by Catalina Lozano (Registering period: from May 20 to June 1, 2016)

  • Research curating. November 2016. Directed by Katerina Gregos

  • Criticism and Writing. June 2017. Directed by Peio Agirre

  • Curating and mediation. November 2017. Directed by Nora Sternfeld

Each module may comprise presentations, workshops or lectures, as proposed by each coordinator. These sessions will serve to address the issues of curating from different perspectives and manners, both theoretical and practical. With a maximum of 20 participants, the 5-day modules will be independent of one another and will run from Monday to Friday, with morning and evening sessions.

Activities

  • Workshops

This last seminar of the curating programme, that will analyse the mediation through the perspective of curatorial practice, will be directed by the curator and educator Nora Sternfeld. The module will also include the participation of Ahmed Al-Nawas (curator and educator based in Helsinki) and Ayşe Güleç (cultural worker, educator and activist based in Kassel).

    29-05-2017 > 02-06-2017 - 10:00-13:00 / 16:00-19:00

The emergence of the curator has influenced art criticism over the last two decades. As the profusion of writing about art grows, there is an ongoing sense of crisis in the world of criticism and its methods. The module ‘Criticism and Writing’, directed by Peio Aguirre, tries to bring back some order by focusing on the central material: the text.
