With a Diploma in Education and a BA in Philosophy by the University of the Basque Country in 1989, he has been a teacher in all levels of basic education. Since the year 1993 he received a PhD from the Department of Philosophy of Values and Social Anthropology at the same University. He is a professor of artistic education at the Public University of Navarre, dedicated mainly to teacher training, teaching postgraduate courses and directing doctoral theses.
Since the year 2000 he has led the EDARTE Research group with which he has carried out several research projects, among which we could highlight Jóvenes productores de cultura visual: Competencias y saberes artísticos en educación secundaria (Young producers of visual culture: Artistic skills and knowledge in secondary education).
He has participated in many national and international congresses and has published several works such as Culturas juveniles y ambientes escolares (Youth cultures and school environments), Learning and Attitudes Towards the Knowledge of the Young Producers of Visual Culture, Teorías y prácticas en educación artística (Theories and practices in artistic education), El acceso al patrimonio cultural: retos y debates (Access to cultural heritage: challenges and debates), or the coordination along with Lucina Jiménez and Lucia G. Pimentel of the book Educación artística, cultura y ciudadanía (Artistic education, culture and citizenship).
