International Museum Day 2017

International Museum Day - May 18-20

'Stimulants: circulation and euphoria' exhibition.

International Museum Day is celebrated on 18 May and Tabakalera will join, along with other cultural centres, this celebration on Saturday 20 May with a special agenda full of activities for all.

In 2017 the event will be based on the topic: Museums and contested histories: Saying the unspeakable in museums. The topic is an invitation for the museum to become, thanks to its role as a mediator and to the dialogue between its different interlocutors, the reconciling element with the traumatic events and stories of the past.

The programme prepared by Tabakalera for 20 May includes activities that will take place throughout the day in the different spaces of the international centre for contemporary culture, which range from the exhibition room, extending to 22:00 the timetable of the Stimulants: Circulation and Euphoria exhibition and the presentation of the Smoke Politics series of publications; to the cinema, which will screen the films Der Traumhafte Weg by Angela Schanelec and Rester vertical by Alain Guiraudie; in addition to the creator's space, with a concert by Niebla Fascista (Jorge Nuñez) and an audiovisual projection by resident Bernd Behr; Hirikilabs with the DonostiTron Fest or Ubik, where in addition to the usual schedule planned for the day, with activities such as Getting to Know Arduino and Jolabs Nosing Around, there will be proposals such as a special Checkmate, storytelling or screenings of short films on the Experimental Screen.

INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY

Every year since 1977 the ICOM has organised the International Museum Day (IMD), a unique occasion for the international museum community. Around this day, the museums that participate in IMD schedule events and creative activities related to the motto of International Museum Day, connecting with their audience and highlighting the importance of the role that museums play as institutions at the service of society and its development.
